The death toll at the crash of the ferry in Tanzania has increased up to 225 people - RIA Novosti, 9/23/2018


MOSCOW, 23 Sep — RIA Novosti. The number of the victims of the crash of the passenger ferry on Lake Victoria in Tanzania has increased to 225 people, the local newspaper of Citizen with reference to the commissioner of police of the city of Mwanza John Mongell writes. Earlier it was reported about 209 dead. As the newspaper writes, bodies of nine more dead have been on Saturday evening found, seven more have been found on Sunday morning. The ferry has turned over on Thursday in 50 meters from the mooring on the island of Yukora. According to some information, onboard there were about 400 people that considerably exceeds possibilities of the ferry. Also the vessel transported freight, including bags with corn, bananas and cement. Earlier the edition has reported that too sharp turn of the helmsman at management because of what it has turned over became a cause of the crash. According to the edition, the survived passengers of the ferry have said that the helmsman spoke by the mobile phone and began to come to the mooring from the wrong party.
